Yes do that. There is already a black market for tabbacco, because of the constant taxes being imposed on them. So yes, stop the younger ones from starting, but bring the Price down for the rest of us who've been smoking for decades, as that is what has driven the black market of tabbacco products, and upping the tax on smokes is punishing people for being addicted to something they are legally entitled to do. Taxes upon taxes are not the way to stop people smoking. It just makes the poor poorer and go without heat, food etc, because, they are addicted. It's time to change the government's ideas on what to do to stop people smoking as taxes are not the way. Yes I'm sure less packets are sold now than 20 years ago. That's because of vaping, (of which we no nothing of long term effects), black market, home grown tabbacco and yes price, but only because people can only afford 1 packet every 2 days instead of 1 per day. Show me the statistics of the reason for cigarettes (tailor made and roll your own) sales dropping.

Banning smoking will cause more poverty in New Zealand because people won’t stop buying it.

Once you stop smoking you realise what a filthy unhealthy thing it was to do. You wake up from The addiction.
