Writing a reference

It's a long time since I have had to write a reference for someone, but in the last week suddenly two different neighbours have asked us to write a reference for them, for two different reasons. It took us a bit to get the right wording but very happy with what we wrote for both in the end. Have you ever had to write a reference?

Yes and sometimes it’s very hard to get the wording just right but glad you’re happy with how they turned out. Reply

Yes , I have completed many references and in fact have a professional qualification in this . I have many templates on references and resume writing and how to handle interview questions . I f you have been through as many interviews as i have , you will notice that the interviewer , will fire questions at you like :- Where do see yourself in 5 years time ? What are your SWOT's . This to me indicates the interviewer is a total nonce and doesn't know how to conduct an interview . Reply

I have given verbal references over the phone in the past. Honesty is always the best policy. I prefer to know if someone has written my name and number down as a reference, as I had one employer phone and I didn't even know that the applicant had used me as a contact reference. I would much prefer being asked first. I told the employer this fact first, before anything about the applicant. Reply

No one has ever asked me to write them a reference. If they had I guess you would be flattered so more inclined to write them a good one! Reply

I have given verbal references both on the phone and face to face. I haven't yet been asked for a written one but I could definitely find the right words for whomever asked me for a written reference. I would always be honest. Reply

I have written personal references for some people, and also given verbal references, and found always best to be honest because it comes back on you and your credibility if you aren't. Reply
