Free Upgrade to Windows 10
Closed

During and after lockdown I have been helping myself and others resurrect their old computers using a free upgrade to Windows 10. Be warned it takes a long time to go through the set up process, but most of that time is waiting time.

I am convinced that once you do an upgrade your machine will perform a lot better than before. Here is a link to an article on how to do the upgrade.

Some of the "upgrades" in Windows 10 make it more awkward to do simple things and some do things you never knew you needed or wanted to do :(

Yeah, it can take a while depending on internet connection and speed of the PC. I've had it take 10-20 minutes on machines with SSDs inside them and a fast internet connection. And if you are clever (or geeky, like me) enough, it's easy enough to buy a cheap SSD and clone the old hard disk onto it. But yes, some people get their copy of Windows 10 by buying, say, a Windows 7 key then doing the 'free' upgrade to 10. But beware - not all old hardware that works with 7 also works properly with 10.
