Is vaping safer than smoking?
Closed

This weekend in the U.S., the first death thought to be directly linked to vaping was reported. The patient was suffering from an unknown lung disease, which the Centres for Disease Control believe is part of an “ongoing outbreak” of pulmonary disease related to e-cigarette use.

Since late July, 193 cases of the lung disease have been reported across the U.S.. Symptoms include breathing and respiratory issues, as well as gastrointestinal upset. While the CDC has not identified a cause, in each case the patient had recently used an e-cigarette for nicotine or THC - the high-inducing element in marijuana.

E-cigarettes are sold as a device for those who want to quit smoking, but how effective are they?
According to the American Heart Association “The increasing popularity of vaping may 're-normalize' smoking, which has declined for years. Reversing the hard-won gains in the global effort to curb smoking would be catastrophic.”

Would you say vaping is re-normalising smoking?

In New Zealand, vaping has similar regulations to traditional cigarettes. Vaping products manufactured from tobacco can be sold to persons over the age of 18, but vaping is increasingly being banned from public environments. Do you think there should be more or less regulation around vaping?

When I was out shopping, today, There was smoke pouring out of both doors, to a combi-van, parked near the post office. It wasn't on fire. Both occupants of the van were vaping. Sooooo much `vapour'. Incredible!

Anything one does to excess will have undesirable side effects. All things in moderation is a good maxim.

Somebodies making a profit and its not the smoking industry. Another new health problem to deal with, which was suppose to fix another problem. Its the blind leading the blind into a hole.

I think that they should take nicotine out of vapourising substances, giving up smoking means giving up the nicotine that causes the addiction. Vaping becomes an addiction and there should be more regulations around it.
