Should plus-sized clothing be more expensive?
Closed

Pyjama brand Peter Alexander has received some backlash from consumers after people noticed that many plus-sized styles on their website were more expensive than equivalent size 8-14 options.

According to the company, this disparity is because they need to use different patterns and produce smaller runs when it comes to plus-sized garments. Other brands in the US have also experienced similar criticism.

Do you think plus-sized clothes should be more expensive? Should smaller sizes increase in price so that there is parity across all sizes?

Definitely not. I think in this day an age, plus size clothing is much more expensive and it’s just normal. But I think it’s ridiculous to make clothing more expensive because it’s much bigger then the average.

I am amazed at how many people are saying no to this! Clothing brands generally have a 'regular' range that runs up to around a size 16 and a plus-size range which caters to sizes larger than that. I absolutely think that clothing using more fabric and resources should be more expensive! The regular ranges (6-16ish) should be the same price, as there is (roughly) a bell-curve of people fitting in that range so fabric costs level out, but any larger should incur extra costs.

I am on the fence, I understand that it costs more to produce larger sizes but the discrimination should not be addressed lightly. I don't know how they can address this so that no one is left short or offended.

No. People these days are not all able to control their weight and so size. We should all be equal in everything.

Depends on the fabric and how much is used to make the item
